Job Summary:

The SAU/PACU Registered Nurse provides clinical nursing in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and plays a primary role in the efficient functioning of the ASC.  Duties of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with patients and other users of the ASC.
  • Oversees the clinical practice of nursing in the ASC including assessing patient care needs and planning the delivery of care utilizing the nursing process in a variety of settings.
  • Directs other caregivers in providing patient care.
  • Reports variances from standard practice to the Nurse Manager.
  • Provides pre-operative teaching as needed, such as explanation of surgical routine and environment.
  • Processes patients through the ASC.
  • Administers prescribed medications, applies dressings, and monitors vital signs.
  • Assesses the level of personnel skills and the availability of resources to meet established patient outcomes.
  • Actively participates in attaining ASC goals and mission.
  • Responsible for personal and staff development by maintaining nursing competencies.
  • Completes all mandatory nursing competencies and educational requirements within a defined time frame.
  • Participates in the preparation of staff development programs. Identifies self-learning needs, establishes personal and professional goals to meet those needs and evaluates attainment of set goals.
  • Demonstrates a positive, concerned, and sensitive response in the workplace.
  • Contributes to the positive atmosphere of the workplace.
  • Interacts with patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous, helpful manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information regarding patient, families, and staff members.
  • Resolves conflict in a positive manner.
  • The position requires cross training to pre-procedure, intra-procedure, recovery, and pre-procedural phone calls. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current Minnesota license as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • One year of clinical experience as an RN in an ambulatory surgical center environment required.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a medical surgery center setting located in Edina. Must be willing and able to float to Maplewood and Burnsville locations on occasion.

Compensation & Work Schedule:

  • Full Time: 1.0 FTE
  • Weekday day shift; start times vary from 5:45-8:00AM
  • No evenings or weekends
